SSTI Tech is the premiere destination for the nation’s most driven technical theatre students. SSTI Tech: On Deck offers a dynamic introduction to the many worlds of tech theatre, with hands-on experience in a condensed, fast-paced format. This program is perfect for students seeking to build strong technical foundations and professional presentation skills, all while receiving mentorship from experts across a variety of specializations.

Gateway to Your Future

At SSTI Tech: On Deck, students from a variety of backgrounds come together to explore the world of technical theatre.

 

Whether you're looking to build a strong foundation or expand your existing skills, this fast-paced, hands-on program offers an immersive experience designed to ignite passion and creativity.

Students don’t just build—they actively participate in the full production process, from the initial meetings to the final product on stage, a set design for the SSTI Junior production! 

 

Working alongside a professional director and creative team, students are mentored by industry leaders and SSTI’s renowned faculty, gaining real-world experience as they collaborate on every aspect of the production.

This action-packed intensive provides the skills, confidence, and mentorship to set students up for success in their next steps.

Explore

Dive into world of technical theatre, where student explore the various career paths and specialization options, helping them to understand the vast opportunities available to aspiring professionals. From lighting design to scenic painting, students will discover new passions while collaborating together as a production team.


SSTI Tech: On Deck students will:​

  • Explore Finances for the Technician

  • Understand Communication through Rendering and Design Meetings

  • Prepare Production Budgets

CREATE

During daily shop hours in various tech departments, students will design, develop, and implement a professional theatrical scenic design. Mentored by SSTI staff, TOD students will learn effective methods to collaborate cross-departmentally and take a design from page to the stage for our SSTI Junior students to perform in their showcase!

SSTI Tech: On Deck students will:

  • Tool Safety and Technique Training

  • Daily Shop Work Across Two Venues

  • Introduction to Vectorworks Software

Elevate

SSTI's technical students depart our programs with an understanding of the key elements that they should be capturing and developing during the school year for their portfolios, how to most effectively tell their story in an interview setting, and how to continue developing their technical skills.
 

SSTI Tech: On Deck students will:

  • Study Process and Production Shots

  • Develop base for a Professional Portfolio

  • Adapt and Refine their Resumes

  • Practice Interview Tips and Tricks

We’re dedicated to shaping the next generation of theatre makers. Our programs emphasize both personal and professional growth, creating an environment where students can thrive as leaders and collaborators. Communication and teamwork are foundational values in the professional world of theatre design and technology, and these values are at the core of our work.
 

Through the SSTI Tech: On Deck experience, students will gain a comprehensive understanding of the production process, from concept to completion. As they represent their departments and interests, they’ll practice crucial skills such as production planning, departmental advocacy, strategic budgeting, and managing timely builds and adjustments. This hands-on, student-driven experience offers an introduction to both the technical and human elements of bringing a production to life.
 

Students can expect to build practical, technical skills while also refining their "soft" management abilities. Armed with these tools and the confidence gained through their SSTI experience, they will return to their schools ready to positively impact their communities at home.

June 28- Driving Student Arrival Window (11am - 1:00pm)

               Flying Student SAV Airport Pickup Times: 11:30am and 1:30pm

 

July 4-    Driving Student Checkout Time: 11am

               Flying Student SAV Airport Dropoff Time: 10am

TuitioN
Tuition for SSTI Tech: On Deck includes: 
One Week SSTI Technical Theatre experience
Private bedroom in SSTI's apartment style living
Dinner nightly, with additional group grocery trip

Tuition for Tech: On Deck is $1475.
